The so‑called IRGC, Iran’s “Revolutionary Guards” have been placed on the EU’s terrorist list, as EU foreign affairs commissioner Kaja Kallas announced on Thursday.
In a social‑media post she warned that “repression must not go unanswered” adding that the EU foreign ministers have just taken the decisive step of designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. “Any regime that kills thousands of its own citizens is working toward its own demise” she wrote.
The IRGC is a key component of Iran’s armed forces and is considered the most powerful institution in the country. It has been linked to the suppression of recent protests. Human‑rights group HRANA has counted more than 6,000 confirmed deaths, with over 17,000 suspected fatalities under investigation. Time magazine estimates that on January 8 and 9 the regime killed around 30,000 people alone.
