The German Weather Service (DWD) has widened its severe‑weather alert to cover large parts of Germany.
A warning has been issued for slick, precipitation‑heavy black‑ice conditions in the east and northeast. Regions affected include parts of Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony and Saxony‑Anhalt. The DWD expects disruptions to road and rail traffic, and in the northeast there is also a risk of ice building up on infrastructure and vegetation-referred to as “ice‑breakage”.
In addition, the service now warns of a potentially heavy snow shower in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The snowfall could lead to major traffic restrictions and complications for public transport, and there is a danger that trees may collapse under the weight of the snow.
The alert covers the night into Monday and extends until the morning, and it may be prolonged if conditions persist.
