Blood and Sinners, a horror film, has set a new record with 16 Oscar nominations. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced that the film could win awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Casting. The previous record holders had 14 nominations each: All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1998), and La La Land (2017).
The German film In die Sonne schauen, directed by Mascha Schilinski, will not be considered in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Oscars. Instead the Academy has nominated The Secret Agent (Brazil), Ein einfacher Unfall (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirat (Spain), and Die Stimme von Hind Rajab (Tunisia).
German-born composer Max Richter, now living in the United Kingdom, is nominated for Best Original Score for the drama Hamnet. His competitors are Jerkin Fendrix for Bugonia, Alexandre Desplat for Frankenstein, Jonny Greenwood for One Battle after Another, and Ludwig Goransson for Blood and Sinners.
The nominees for Best Picture are Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle after Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Blood and Sinners, and Train Dreams.
For Best Actress the nominations are Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, and Emma Stone for Bugonia. In the Best Actor category the nominees are Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle after Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael Jordan for Blood and Sinners, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.
