The German export sector welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to ease tensions over the Greenland dispute. “It’s certainly positive that President Trump has rescinded the tariffs” said Dirk Jandura, president of the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA), to the “Rheinische Post” on Friday. From an American viewpoint, dropping the tariffs is, according to Jandura, the only sensible course. Tariffs would raise product prices, hurt both businesses and consumers, and ultimately dent the U.S. economy. He added that inflation ultimately forces American citizens to shoulder the cost of tariffs, yet warned that Trump’s stance could reverse tomorrow, and that such unpredictability erodes the reliability of trade relationships.
