According to the German federal government, the number of people being deported has risen more than in recent years. Figures supplied by the interior ministry, reported by “Die Welt”, show that in 2025 roughly 23,000 people were expelled from Germany. That represents a 15 percent increase over the previous year, when about 20,000 were sent back, and roughly a 45 percent jump compared with 2023, when around 16,000 were deported.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) told “Die Welt” that the country is achieving “order in migration policy”: “More returns, fewer pull factors, effective controls – the migration turnaround is working”.
In addition, the government deported a Syrian criminal in mid‑week. He was flown on a regular flight back to Damascus. The man had recently lived in Baden‑Württemberg and had been repeatedly convicted in Germany. A court had sentenced him to a multi‑year prison term for numerous drug‑related offences.
