The European Union (EU) has significantly reduced natural gas imports from 40 percent to 7.5 percent, with measures taken to eliminate energy dependence on Russia.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the share of Russian gas imports has been significantly reduced.

“We managed to completely get rid of Russian coal. In addition, by the end of the year we will reduce the share of oil purchased from Russia to 10 percent. At the beginning of the war, Russia’s share of imported gas was 40 percent. In the last 7 months, we have reduced it to 7.5 percent,” von der Leyen said.

She described the rates as “massive efforts to switch from Russian fossil fuels to reliable suppliers and invest in renewable energy”.

“The best way to avoid Russia’s blackmail is to accelerate renewable energy and clean transformation,” he stressed.

Referring to the increase in energy prices after the war in Ukraine, von der Leyen declared that until the Summit of EU leaders on October 20-21, they will bring new proposals for reducing energy prices.

Von der Leyen stated that they supported the creation of an international war crimes court, helped Ukraine gather evidence and supported sending the case to the International Criminal Court.
