Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared new details about the Cybertruck in a tweet on Thursday.
Musk wrote that the pickup truck is “water resistant enough” to “briefly” function as a boat.
This isn’t the first time Musk has written about the Cybertruck’s water capabilities.
In April 2020, Musk said in a post that the pickup truck could even “splash for a while.”
But Musk’s hydrophilic tendencies go back even further to when he stated that the Model S was also capable of turning into a boat for “short periods of time,” but that it was something the company itself didn’t recommend anyone try.
However, the thrust would come from the rotation of the wheels. Musk has now revealed that the Cybertruck may be able to cross rivers, lakes and seas that aren’t too choppy.
However, it is unclear how crossing something as significant as the sea goes with the first part of his Twitter status.
“Sufficiently water-resistant” and “short-lived” are not words usually associated with marine vessels.
Musk made another status attached where he stated that the Cybertruck needs skills in order to cross the channel to South Padre Island in Texas.
The pickup was supposed to go into production at the end of 2021, but when the deadline came, no pickup had rolled off the production line.
Production was then pushed back to late 2022, but nothing new is happening. Instead, production is expected to begin in early 2023.
