The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Germany signed today, during the visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Abu Dhabi, an agreement that provides for the supply of liquefied natural gas and oil to Germany in 2022 and 2023.
UAE Industry Minister Sultan al-Jaber hailed the “historic new agreement” that “strengthens the growing energy partnership between the UAE and Germany”, during the signing of the agreement in the presence of Scholz.
Scholz, who met with the head of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, also present at the signing, hailed the “energy security” agreement.
The agreement foresees the export of liquefied natural gas to Germany in late 2022, followed by the delivery of additional quantities in 2023.
Local media reported that there was a direct shipment of oil to Berlin in September and added that in 2023 Germany will receive around 250,000 tons of oil per month.
Scholz is on a short tour of the Gulf countries. On Saturday he was in Saudi Arabia, today in the United Arab Emirates and at the end of the day he will visit Qatar.
