Storm delays launch of NASA rocket to moon

The launch of NASA’s most powerful rocket ever has been delayed by a tropical storm that could turn into a hurricane.

Artemis 1 rocket was expected to lift off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Tuesday.

The US state faces a hurricane threat as the tropical storm has strengthened and could approach Florida early next week as a major hurricane.

The launch of the rocket had already been postponed twice.

The Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle is designed to send astronauts and their equipment back to the Moon after 50 years.

The rocket’s launch failed in late August due to technical glitches, while a second attempt in early September was thwarted by a fuel leak.

The space agency wants to send the unmanned Orion rocket around the far side of the Moon, ahead of manned trips on board.

NASA hopes that by 2025 it will be able to send astronauts back to the lunar surface.
