Borussia Mönchengladbach and SC Freiburg played to a goalless draw at Borussia-Park on matchday six of the Bundesliga.
The opening exchanges saw both teams adopt a measured approach to their attacking play, though Mönchengladbach demonstrated slightly more initiative. Goalkeeper Moritz Atubolu was called into action early, making crucial saves to deny Engelhardt’s headed attempts in the 15th and 29th minutes and subsequently stopping a shot from Sanders in the 18th minute. The first half concluded without either side breaking the deadlock.
Following the interval, Freiburg began to pose a greater threat, with Best heading narrowly wide in the 56th minute. A cross from Beste in the 66th minute found substitute Manzambi, but his shot from close range sailed just over the bar.
Despite periods of promise for both sides, a lack of precision ultimately prevented either team from finding the back of the net. While Polanski’s Mönchengladbach side generally appeared the more proactive, Freiburg had a significant opportunity in the 83rd minute when Nicolas tipped Scherhant’s free kick onto the crossbar. No further clear-cut chances presented themselves until the final whistle.
The result sees Borussia Mönchengladbach climb above Heidenheim into 17th place in the league standings, while Freiburg remains in eighth position.
