Digital Funds Urgently Needed for Schools

A leading figure in the German Green Party, Cem Özdemir, has urged the federal government to expedite the implementation of the DigitalPact 2.0. Expressing concern over the delay, Özdemir stated that it remains unclear how funding for school digitalization will be distributed, ten months after a political agreement was reached.

As the current Minister of Education and Agriculture, having assumed the role following the dissolution of the previous coalition government and having been instrumental in negotiating the DigitalPact 2.0 alongside state representatives, Özdemir emphasized that all contracts are essentially ready for signature.

He underscored the importance of adhering to agreed timelines, specifically noting the commitment to launch the DigitalPact 2.0 by January 2026. This launch is designed to enable retroactive accounting for the year 2025, preventing a gap in funding. Özdemir highlighted the critical need for municipalities to have certainty regarding future funding and to avoid losing progress already made, ensuring they can effectively plan for years to come.
