Kathrin Moosdorf has announced her resignation from her position as Senator for Environment, Climate and Science in Bremen. The Green Party confirmed the news Saturday afternoon, though specific reasons for her departure were not disclosed.
Moosdorf formally offered her resignation, a decision expressed as regrettable by the party’s interim leadership – Josephine Assmus and Franziska Tell – alongside Mayor Björn Fecker and parliamentary group leader Henrike Müller.
In statements released, Green Party officials lauded Moosdorf’s committed work over the past two years. Particular emphasis was placed on her efforts in advancing the University of Bremen’s Excellence Strategy, reforming tree protection regulations and adopting the Climate Action Plan 2.0.
Maintaining a strong scientific infrastructure despite budgetary constraints was also recognized as a significant achievement during her tenure.
According to the Green Party, lasting accomplishments of Moosdorf’s time in office include the implementation of Bremen’s Biodiversity Strategy, the newly enacted tree protection regulations and the successful acquisition of federal and EU funding for environmental and scientific initiatives. The securing of drinking water supplies through a water pact with Lower Saxony and the development of the Science Plan 2030 were also cited as crucial achievements.
