The German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has commissioned Munich-based startup Tytan Technologies to develop a concept for the protection of military facilities and critical infrastructure. The initiative, reported by FAS, is being spearheaded by the Bundeswehr’s Innovation Lab in Erding.
Tytan Technologies, founded in 2023 and specializing in counter-drone technology, will design a comprehensive solution to defend against drones classified as NATO Class II. This category includes drones such as the Iranian Shahed models and their Russian counterparts, which have been widely deployed in Ukraine, presenting a significant challenge to air defenses in the region. According to the company, Tytan’s interceptor drones have already undergone testing and been integrated into Ukrainian air defense systems.
Leveraging these operational insights gained in Ukraine, Tytan intends to adapt its technology for safeguarding German military sites and vital infrastructure. As the principal contractor for this Bundeswehr project, Tytan plans to collaborate with other companies possessing expertise in areas including sensor technology, radar systems and software development.
The startup is expected to present a finalized concept to the Bundeswehr by mid-2026. However, Tytan anticipates presenting a preliminary proposal to the armed forces as early as spring.
