Germany’s Federal Government’s Commissioner for Anti-Semitism, Felix Klein, has urged citizens to demonstrate solidarity with the Jewish community. Recent events, including the arrest of suspected Hamas operatives in Berlin and the attack on a synagogue in Manchester during the solemn holiday of Yom Kippur, underscore the current and tangible threats facing Jewish life in Europe, he stated in remarks to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers.
Klein highlighted a pattern of escalating antisemitic violence, referencing the 2019 terror attack on a synagogue in Halle and the 2021 Hamas assault on Israel. He characterized these incidents as evidence of an “eliminatory hatred” rooted in antisemitism.
Acknowledging the limitations of state action alone in combating antisemitism, Klein emphasized the need for a broader societal response. He called for visible signs of solidarity with the Jewish community and stressed the importance of integrating Jewish life centrally within German society.
