Several hundred people gathered in Berlin on Thursday, staging a demonstration directly in front of the Federal Foreign Office to express their opposition to Israel’s actions. A significant police presence was deployed to maintain order and ensure demonstrators remained distanced from the ministry building.
The demonstration, organized under the banner “Solidarity with the Sumud Flotilla – Stop the Gaza Genocide – No Weapons Deliveries to Israel” referenced the recent attempts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza via a ship convoy, most of which have been intercepted by the Israeli Navy. The “Sumud Flotilla” initiative aims to break the blockade on Gaza.
Protesters voiced demands for sanctions to be imposed on Israel. However, these calls were reiteratedly rejected by the German government earlier in the day. A government spokesperson stated to the dts news agency that discussions regarding potential sanctions at the European level are not currently underway.
