The German national football team is preparing for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, featuring a blend of fresh talent and familiar faces.
Manager Julian Nagelsmann announced a 24-man squad on Thursday, marking the first call-up for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown. The 21-year-old was a key part of the German U21 team which secured a runner-up finish at the European Championship in Slovakia this summer.
Joining Brown in the squad are several returning players: Jonathan Burkardt, Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlovic, Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha and RB Leipzig’s Ridle Baku.
“Two victories – that is our clear goal to continue our progress towards World Cup qualification” stated Nagelsmann. “Even with the absence of several players, we are confident that our squad possesses the quality to perform well.
The manager highlighted the importance of Nico Schlotterbeck’s return following the absence of Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger. The inclusion of Brown was also noted, with Nagelsmann praising his talent in the defensive line.
Germany will first face Luxembourg on Friday at 8:45 PM in Sinsheim, followed by a match against Northern Ireland on Monday at the same time in Belfast.
