The Social Democratic Party (SPD) is planning a formal recognition of former Chancellor Olaf Scholz to mark the 50th anniversary of his membership. According to a party spokesperson, the commemoration will follow established local tradition, with the local chapter spearheading the event.
The celebration will involve the presentation of a certificate signed by the current SPD leadership and a commemorative badge to acknowledge Scholz’s decades-long commitment to the party. Details regarding the exact format of the ceremony are currently being finalized through a vote within Scholz’s local SPD chapter in Potsdam Mitte/Nord.
Sören Drobniewski, responsible for regional coordination in Potsdam and Havelland, confirmed that Scholz’s jubilee will be discussed during a local chapter meeting on Wednesday. He further noted that it’s common practice within many SPD chapters to incorporate member recognition events as part of their annual Christmas celebrations, with December 12th currently under consideration for the occasion.
