Oktoberfest Security Praised

Following a large-scale security operation in Munich earlier this week, both the Union and SPD parties have expressed approval of the actions taken by security agencies.

Alexander Throm, the Union faction’s spokesperson for internal affairs, told the “Rheinische Post” that large events, such as the Munich Oktoberfest, are routinely secured with stringent measures, a practice intensified in Munich following the far-right extremist attack in 1980. He emphasized the current potential threat environment and the importance of swift and decisive action, which he stated was effectively demonstrated by Bavarian authorities.

Sebastian Fiedler, the SPD faction spokesperson for internal affairs, echoed this sentiment, stating that German security agencies are well-equipped to handle large-scale events. He explained that a heightened, abstract threat level has been in place for years, continually factored into the strategic planning of security services.

Fiedler noted that comprehensive security concepts are developed prior to each event, with protocols coordinated between organizers, local authorities and emergency services. He affirmed that such security measures are now standard practice for all similar gatherings, highlighting the professionalism demonstrated by German security agencies both before and during events.
