VfL Bochum suffered a 1-0 defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf in a 2. Bundesliga match played on Saturday. The setback came early for the home side, with Düsseldorf taking the lead in the fourth minute. Following a Muslija free kick, Itten headed the ball to Oberdorf, who calmly slotted it past the Bochum goalkeeper.
Bochum had a chance to equalize in the seventh minute, but Bero’s effort from a central position narrowly missed the target. Further chances followed, with Itten nearly extending Düsseldorf’s lead in the 17th minute, but Bochum’s goalkeeper, Horn, proved equal to the challenge.
A cross from Morgalla in the 28th minute found Wittek, but he was caught off guard and failed to connect. Overall, Düsseldorf demonstrated a greater sense of purpose, going into halftime with a deserved one-goal advantage.
The second half saw an improved performance from Bochum. Kocierski narrowly missed a chance in the 48th minute following a Holtmann cross. Later, Holtmann’s attempt was thwarted by a strong save from Düsseldorf’s goalkeeper, Kastenmeier.
However, clear-cut chances were scarce for both teams. Düsseldorf prioritized defensive stability, managing their slender lead effectively. A late effort from substitute Alfa-Ruprecht in the 81st minute posed a brief threat, but Kastenmeier was once again on hand to deny Bochum.
The result leaves Bochum languishing in 17th place in the league standings, while Düsseldorf climbs to ninth position.
