Police Ramp Up Rail Station Security

The German Federal Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, has announced plans to increase police visibility at railway stations across the country. The move is intended to enhance public perception of safety, both in terms of objective security measures and the feeling of security experienced by citizens.

According to Dobrindt, the strategy includes expanding public surveillance systems and deploying significantly more police personnel. Specific, targeted enforcement weekends, featuring increased police presence, are planned for implementation later this year.

Addressing concerns about potential strain on police resources, particularly in light of ongoing border controls, Dobrindt emphasized the commitment of law enforcement officers and expressed gratitude for their work. He acknowledged the considerable burden faced by police forces.

The decision to extend border controls for an additional six months, beyond the original deadline of September, reflects ongoing concerns regarding irregular migration and the continued pressure on local authorities, Dobrindt stated. The extension aims to manage the situation and alleviate the strain on municipalities.
