Ahead of a special ministerial conference on transport scheduled for Thursday, the Social Association Germany (SoVD) has urged for guaranteed long-term financial stability for the Deutschlandticket.
Michaela Engelmeier, chair of the SoVD’s executive board, emphasized the urgent need to resolve the ongoing debate surrounding the ticket’s funding in statements provided to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers. Alongside partner organizations within the “Coalition for Socially Compatible Mobility Transition” the SoVD is calling upon the federal government and state authorities to secure the Deutschlandticket’s financial viability and establish price stability.
Engelmeier further advocated for substantial investment in public transportation infrastructure and the introduction of a nationwide social ticket. She asserted that such measures are essential to unlock the Deutschlandticket’s full potential, fostering a sustainable, climate-friendly and socially equitable mobility system.
The price of the Deutschlandticket rose from €49 to €58 at the beginning of the year and indications suggest a potential further price increase may be anticipated in the coming year.
