The current President of the United Nations General Assembly and former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has voiced support for a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, contingent upon the commencement of peace negotiations.
Speaking to “Bild am Sonntag” Baerbock emphasized the necessity of such missions, stating they are “more necessary than ever before, not only with regard to the European continent.
Baerbock suggested that if a peace treaty is reached, ensuring its security is paramount. “If the majority of member states say that it would also require blue helmets, then that is something that hopefully can permanently secure peace” she added.
However, she stressed that peace talks must precede any consideration of such a mission. The focus, she asserted, should initially be on initiating and facilitating constructive dialogue.
