A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the shooting death of US influencer Charlie Kirk, authorities confirmed Friday.
US President Donald Trump stated earlier in the day that he believed, “with a very high probability” the suspect was in custody.
Independent reports from US media outlets, citing sources close to the investigation, indicated that an individual has been detained and is currently being questioned. A press conference is scheduled to provide further details.
Prior to the announcement of the arrest, law enforcement released surveillance footage purportedly depicting the suspect fleeing the scene. It remains unconfirmed whether the individual now in custody is the person shown in those images.
Charlie Kirk, a prominent figure known for his close relationship with Donald Trump, was fatally shot on Wednesday during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Orem. The shooting occurred from a distance of approximately 130 meters, with a single gunshot impacting the victim.
