Following the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace on Wednesday, prominent foreign policy figure Norbert Röttgen (CDU) is advocating for the acquisition of defensive drone technology for the German armed forces.
Speaking to RTL and n-tv on Thursday, Röttgen stated that it is “undisputed” that the Bundeswehr is currently insufficiently equipped. He characterized the incident as a learning opportunity for Germany.
Röttgen emphasized the need for accelerated action, asserting that defensive drones are required to counter such attacks and should be procured swiftly. He also highlighted the need for clarity regarding legal responsibility and decision-making protocols in similar situations, calling for a clear legal framework that allows for rapid and decisive responses.
