Germany’s Minister for Digital Affairs, Karsten Wildberger, has acknowledged bureaucratic obstacles hindering the development of digital innovation and pledged to address the issue.
Speaking to RTL and ntv, Minister Wildberger stated that current regulations prioritize risk mitigation over fostering innovation, a situation he described as “not helpful”. He confirmed ongoing discussions with the European Commission within the current regulatory review process to explore avenues for change.
Despite the existing regulatory landscape, Wildberger asserted that greater progress is currently achievable. He also commended Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his focus on digital matters. “I believe this ministry and this focus would not exist without our Chancellor” Wildberger noted, highlighting Merz’s commitment to artificial intelligence and digitalization as a key driver for change. He emphasized a sense of urgency, stating that Germany must accelerate its efforts to catch up in the digital realm, expressing confidence in the nation’s ability to do so.
