Government officials express confidence in resolving impasse regarding appointments to the Federal Constitutional Court.
Thorsten Frei, Minister in the Chancellery and representing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has voiced optimism regarding the upcoming election for judges to the Federal Constitutional Court. In remarks to the “Rhinische Post” newspaper, Frei stated he is “very confident” that a consensus can be reached between the coalition factions. He further expressed the belief that the resulting agreement will garner the necessary two-thirds majority in the Bundestag.
Frei acknowledged that the governing coalition experienced some initial challenges. “It is a demanding environment in which we all operate. We undoubtedly made mistakes in the first four months of the coalition and that applies to almost everyone” he stated. “We will correct this”. Despite these acknowledgements, Frei affirmed that the coalition remains functional, emphasizing its continued operation.
