Following a display of unity among the coalition leadership, Philipp Türmer, chairman of the Jusos (Young Socialists), has called on the Union faction to adopt a more considerate approach to the social welfare system and to demonstrate greater reliability during parliamentary votes.
Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Türmer emphasized the need for the Union leadership to “quickly get their house in order”. This, he stated, includes refraining from what he described as “constant and unsubstantiated attacks” on the fundamental principles of the social state.
Türmer further suggested that the coalition’s stability has been strained by what he characterized as “unprofessional behavior” from Jens Spahn, the parliamentary group leader of the CDU, in relation to the recent judge election. Concerns were also raised regarding Julia Klöckner, the president of the Bundestag (CDU), rejecting the display of a rainbow flag, which Türmer asserted puts a burden on the black-and-red coalition. He also accused Klöckner of downplaying the concerns surrounding right-wing populist movements.
