The number of mobile brothels operating on roads within the German state of Lower Saxony has seen a slight increase this year. Current data, compiled by the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (NOZ) through inquiries to all districts and cities, indicates 66 such vehicles are currently registered. This represents a rise from approximately 61 in 2024 and slightly down from around 68 in 2023.
The majority of these so-called “lovemobiles” are concentrated in three districts. The Hannover region currently lists 26 registered vehicles, followed by the Heide district with 19 and the Oldenburg district with 12. Further locations include the Harburg district (6), Hildesheim (2) and Stade (1).
The accuracy of these figures is dependent on the operational model of each vehicle. Vehicles operated by commercial businesses require a permit under the Prostitution Protection Act and are therefore recorded by the districts. However, if a sex worker utilizes their own recreational vehicle, a nationwide registration is sufficient – these cases don’t necessarily appear in official statistics. This distinction impacts the comprehensiveness of the reported data.
