Union Berlin kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The match saw a dynamic start with Stuttgart creating an early opportunity in the 12th minute, but Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow proved equal to the challenge.
Union responded decisively, taking the lead in the 18th minute through a stunning volley from forward Kevin Ansah, who struck the ball from 25 meters, finding the net inside the left post. Stuttgart pressed for an equalizer, with chances falling to Vagnoman and Karazor, both denied by either Rönnow or the woodwork.
Union extended their advantage just before halftime, with Ansah scoring his second goal of the match, again with a direct shot from 15 meters. The first half concluded with Union Berlin holding a comfortable two-goal lead.
The second half saw Stuttgart with renewed intent. Undav came close to scoring in the 49th minute, hitting the crossbar and Karazor narrowly missed with a header in the 57th. However, Union Berlin solidified their defense, limiting Stuttgart’s opportunities.
Stuttgart managed to pull one back in the 86th minute with a spectacular goal from substitute Tiago Tomas, who expertly curled a shot past the goalkeeper and in off the post. Despite the late goal, Union Berlin held on for the win, securing three points to begin their season.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga on the opening day, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Werder Bremen 4-1, Bayer Leverkusen lost 2-1 to Hoffenheim, Freiburg were beaten 3-1 by Augsburg and Heidenheim fell to a 3-1 defeat against Wolfsburg.
