Spahn Rules Out Any Cooperation With Far-Right AfD

Jens Spahn, a leading figure within the CDU parliamentary group, has firmly rejected any prospect of cooperation with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, dismissing suggestions of a potential rapprochement as unfounded.

In an interview with “Focus” magazine, Spahn highlighted his extensive experience confronting AfD rhetoric, stating he had engaged with their arguments long before some of his current critics even entered parliament. He recounted instances of personal abuse during the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming he was a primary target of AfD protests and asserted he would be among the first targeted should the party gain significant political power.

Responding to discreetly voiced speculation originating within segments of the SPD that he might be open to a coalition with the AfD, Spahn expressed bewilderment, characterizing the criticism as baseless rumour. He signaled his confusion regarding the source of the claims and downplayed their validity.
