Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said 23 Chinese aircraft and eight ships were conducting military operations around the island on Sunday.
According to the ministry, seven Chinese planes crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which normally acts as an unofficial barrier between the two sides.
Meanwhile, today, two US Navy warships sailed through international waters in the Taiwan Strait.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the operation was planned long ago.
This is the first operation of this magnitude since the visit to Taiwan by the speaker of the House of Representatives of the USA, Nancy Pelosi, which caused the reaction of China, since it considers the island as part of it.
