Federal Parliamentarian Gerhard Trabert is stepping down from his seat due to health concerns, the Left Party announced Tuesday, citing information from the politician’s family. According to the statement, Trabert has suffered multiple severe strokes, making a return to his previous life impossible.
Party co-leaders Ines Schwerdtner and Jan van Aken expressed gratitude for Trabert’s dedication, acknowledging his role as a recognized authority in healthcare. “We remain proud and thankful that Gerhard Trabert stood with us in the federal election. As a ‘doctor for the poor,’ he represents both a moral and professional benchmark” they said. “In Parliament, he would have been a powerful voice for a healthcare policy that guarantees good medical care for everyone, not just those who can afford private supplementary services.
Lin Lindner of Trier will assume Trabert’s seat. Lindner identifies as trans and non-binary. Schwerdtner and van Aken welcomed Lindner’s arrival, noting that they represent a strong, young voice committed to combating poverty and discrimination. They also highlighted Lindner’s representation of a segment of the population that deserves increased visibility and support.
