Leipzig’s public prosecutor’s office has filed charges against a bus driver following a severe accident on the A9 highway near Schkeuditz in March 2024. Authorities announced the development on Tuesday. The incident, involving a Flixbus, resulted in four fatalities and left 46 individuals injured.
The 62-year-old Czech national is accused of losing control of the coach while travelling at approximately 94 km/h, allegedly due to a lapse in required due care. Investigators have ruled out any technical defects in the vehicle and confirmed neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the incident. The bus, en route from Berlin to Zurich, veered off the road approximately three kilometers before the Schkeuditzer Kreuz interchange.
The indictment cites four counts of negligent homicide and 46 counts of negligent bodily harm. The Eilenburg district court will now determine whether to open formal proceedings.
