A wildfire response module originating from Bonn, Germany, comprised of personnel from North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and other municipalities, has arrived in San Sebastian, Spain. The Bonn fire department announced this Tuesday. The convoy of 21 vehicles paused overnight in the greater Paris area en route to Spain.
During their transit through France, additional personnel and two further tank firefighting vehicles from Lower Saxony joined the unit, increasing its total strength to 67 individuals. Two leadership personnel had previously travelled to Madrid as an advance team to coordinate deployment details with local authorities. The unit is scheduled to relocate to the Extremadura province later Tuesday to combat an active wildfire.
Alongside the German contingent, two French units are also on the ground. A Finnish wildland firefighting module is currently en route and a Slovakian firefighting helicopter is expected to be deployed in Extremadura.
