German Troops Likely In Ukraine If Peace Deal Reached

The Chairman of the German Parliament’s Defense Committee, Thomas Röwekamp, anticipates the potential deployment of German soldiers to Ukraine should a peace agreement and accompanying security guarantees be established.

Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Röwekamp stated he considers it probable, rather than improbable, that German military personnel would serve within Ukraine. He argued a blanket rejection of such a possibility would be misguided, noting that Germany routinely participates in monitoring operations in other global locations. He also suggested the provision of training for Ukrainian soldiers “within” Ukraine is a viable consideration.

However, Röwekamp cautioned against expectations of a large-scale deployment comparable to the German presence in Lithuania, where a brigade is stationed. He characterized such a scenario as unlikely.

He emphasized the current discussion is premature, given the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for a peaceful resolution and the specific nature of any potential security assurances. He urged a cautious approach, advocating for a wait-and-see attitude until more concrete details emerge.
