Germany Rejects Asylum Benefits as Loans

Berlin – The German federal government has expressed reservations regarding proposals to introduce asylum benefits as loans.

A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs stated on Monday in Berlin, in response to a query from the news agency dts, that a basic minimum standard of living is fundamentally a component of basic rights and a defining characteristic of the social welfare state. “To the best of my knowledge, this has never been provided as a loan before” the spokesperson added, characterizing the proposal as a “systemic break” from established practice.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior referred to statements made by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, who has consistently emphasized the importance of limiting illegal migration to Germany. The minister believes that such measures would ultimately lead to a reduction in the overall costs associated with migration.
