Early matches in the first round of the DFB-Pokal saw favored teams Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Paderborn advance to the next stage. Paderborn secured a 3-1 victory against third-division side Viktoria Köln, while Frankfurt dominated Oberliga team FV Engers with a 5-0 win.
Paderborn established control of their match from the outset, with Adriano Grimaldi scoring twice in quick succession, finding the net in the 5th and 8th minutes. Filip Bilbija further extended their lead in the 36th minute. The second half saw a more relaxed approach from the visitors, allowing Viktoria Köln to gain momentum and pull one back through David Otto in the 59th minute, however, they were unable to further close the gap.
Frankfurt encountered a more challenging start against their lower-league opponents, with the hosts creating several opportunities. A quickfire double from Jean Bahoya (44th minute) and Ritsu Doan (45th minute) just before halftime, however, shifted the balance. Doan added his second goal in the 54th minute and further strikes from Elye Wahi in the 89th minute and Paxten Aaronson in the 90th minute completed a convincing victory for the Bundesliga side.
