Trump Putin Meet in Alaska Seek Swift Ukraine Ceasefire

A high-stakes meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin commenced Friday in Alaska, bringing the two leaders together for direct talks amidst ongoing international conflict.

During a conversation with reporters en route, President Trump emphasized his desire for a swift cessation of hostilities, stating a clear objective to “make the killing stop” despite widespread skepticism about the immediate feasibility of a ceasefire.

Trump characterized Putin as a “very smart guy” while also asserting his own negotiating acumen. He noted the presence of Russian business leaders accompanying Putin, expressing optimism regarding potential economic opportunities once the conflict is resolved. “I like that they want to do business with us, but that can only happen when the war is over” he stated.

According to the Kremlin, the meeting between the two presidents began immediately upon President Putin’s arrival at the airport and is anticipated to last up to seven hours.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was not invited to participate in the summit, conveyed his country’s continued reliance on U.S. support. However, he indicated that Ukraine has not observed any indications of Russia preparing for a de-escalation or end to the current hostilities.
