Union Berlin and 1. FC Magdeburg both secured convincing victories in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Friday.

Union Berlin delivered a dominant performance, defeating FC Gütersloh 5-0. Robert Skov opened the scoring with a free-kick in the 19th minute, followed by a goal from Leopold Querfeld from a corner in the 35th minute, extending the lead to 2-0. Danilho Doekhi further widened the gap before halftime, making it 3-0 in the 43rd minute. Andrej Ilic added a fourth in the 78th minute and Woo-Yeong Jeong completed the rout with a goal in added time, finalizing the score at 5-0.

Meanwhile, 1. FC Saarbrücken faced defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg. Despite a strong start in front of their home crowd, Saarbrücken conceded two goals before halftime through Kaars (43rd minute) and Ghrieb (45+2 minute). Ghrieb then extended Magdeburg’s lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute, before Tim Civeja managed to pull one back for Saarbrücken in the 67th minute. Ultimately, Magdeburg secured a 3-1 victory, advancing to the second round of the competition.
