Police Union Decries Dire Training Facility Conditions

Germany’s federal police force is highlighting significant deficiencies in its facilities, particularly impacting training academies. A recent position paper, reported on by “Münchner Merkur”, details concerns raised by the police trade union (GdP) and calls for modernized infrastructure.

The GdP, specifically its Federal Police Academy district, asserts the need for properties that meet the demands of a contemporary security organization. The document emphasizes that effective, future-proof policing requires infrastructural conditions that support both professional training and the daily work and living conditions of officers.

Currently, the GdP reports a number of issues, including partially closed and dilapidated buildings, overcrowded training rooms and what they describe as “catastrophic” conditions in federal police housing. Specific problems cited include mold infestations and pest control issues. Training exercises are frequently conducted in temporary container units, impacting the overall quality of education for aspiring officers.

The GdP is now advocating for federal funding and a strategic long-term plan to address these issues. The union argues that the current state of federal police properties falls short of modern standards and it urges a sustainable investment strategy to improve working and living conditions and guarantee effective training.
