SPD Seeks Coalition Deal After 100 Days

One hundred days into the tenure of the current German governing coalition, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Bärbel Bas, is calling for a renewed agreement outlining collaborative practices among the coalition partners. In an interview with “Politico” published Wednesday, Bas stated, “We need to clarify a few things”. She emphasized public expectation, adding, “People expect us to work together reasonably and move the country forward.

Bas intends to address these points at the next coalition committee meeting, scheduled for September. “At the moment, many have the impression that we are arguing again” she explained. “That’s why we need an agreement after the summer break on how we can work together more confidently in the coalition.

The Federal Minister of Labour also cautioned against downplaying the accomplishments achieved thus far. “We have set a number of things in motion in the first 100 days” Bas noted. “In my department, for example, I would mention the pension package and the law on compliance with collective bargaining agreements”.
