The board of directors of public broadcaster RBB has decided to appeal portions of a recent ruling by the Berlin Regional Court in its legal dispute with former director general Patricia Schlesinger. The decision was made during a board meeting on August 5th, RBB announced Tuesday.
Board Chairman Wolfgang Krüger stated the aim of the appeal is to prevent financial damage to both license fee payers and the RBB itself. Specifically, the supervisory body seeks a ruling from the Berlin Court of Appeal establishing that Schlesinger is personally liable for her decisions regarding bonus payments and the ARD contribution.
Furthermore, RBB is demanding compensation for the terminated “Digital Media House” (DMH) project. “It is also our concern to recover the costs of the Digital Media House project from her” Krüger said. The project was discontinued at the end of 2022 and RBB is claiming more than 12.9 million euros plus interest.
The Regional Court had previously separated the “Digital Media House” component from the core proceedings.
