German Official Accuses Left Party Of Rising Antisemitism

Germany’s antisemitism commissioner, Felix Klein, has accused the Left party (Die Linke) of a growing trend of hostility towards Israel. In remarks published Saturday, Klein stated that increasingly extreme anti-Israel positions are being observed within the party, including among members of parliament. He also noted a diminishing level of visible opposition to antisemitic expressions of anti-Israel sentiment from within the party itself, describing this as a concerning development.

Klein specifically highlighted a planned event in Berlin this weekend, organized by a local branch of the Left party in cooperation with the “United Palestinian National Committee”. He referred to a report from Berlin’s domestic intelligence agency, which identifies the committee as an umbrella organization encompassing supporters of both the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hamas. Klein suggested this collaboration aligns with a pattern exhibited by some members and officials within the Left party in recent months.

Acknowledging the distressing images emerging from Gaza depicting widespread suffering and hardship, Klein emphasized the importance of clear boundaries. He asserted that raising awareness of the plight of civilians while failing to strongly denounce extremist terrorist organizations undermines credibility.
