The volume of toll-paying heavy goods vehicles – specifically those with four or more axles – traversing German federal motorways increased in July 2025, registering a seasonally and calendar-adjusted rise of 2.3 percent compared to June 2025.
According to data released Friday by the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the calendar-adjusted truck toll performance index stood 1.1 percent above the level recorded in July 2024.
Statisticians note a clear correlation between the truck toll performance index and indicators of overall economic activity, particularly the production index within the manufacturing sector. This relationship stems from the principle that economic activity generates and necessitates transportation volume. Therefore, increases in freight transport are often reflective of broader shifts in industrial production and economic health.
