The Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Technology has secured a new headquarters, marking a significant shift in its operational infrastructure. Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) and his team will relocate to a facility previously occupied by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).
According to Minister Wildberger, the transition represents a cost-effective solution for taxpayers. The BMG is already in the process of vacating the building located at Friedrichstraße 108 in Berlin-Mitte, having moved to its current headquarters on Mauerstraße following extensive renovations completed in 2022. This eliminates the need for additional construction or acquisition costs to accommodate the Digital Ministry’s expansion.
Minister Wildberger informed his staff of the decision earlier this week, following initial reporting by “Table Briefings”. The relocation will be phased, with a partial move expected to be completed by the end of the current year. The full transition is slated for completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
The consolidation will allow Minister Wildberger to bring together a substantial portion of his team under one roof. Currently, approximately 500 individuals work for the ministry, although many remain formally assigned to existing departmental structures. Minister Wildberger emphasized that a building’s vitality derives not from its design, but from the activities and individuals within it. The precise number of employees ultimately housed at the new location remains to be determined.
