Digital Minister Faces Funding Gap

A significant procedural oversight has emerged concerning the newly appointed State Minister for Modernization, Karsten Wildberger, prompting criticism from within the parliamentary budget committee. Lisa Paus, chair of the committee and a member of the Green Party, highlighted the unusual situation where the minister’s department is conspicuously absent from the approved budget framework.

Speaking to RTL and ntv, Paus pointed out the apparent contradiction of having a dedicated minister responsible for modernization and digitalization while lacking a corresponding budgetary allocation. She acknowledged that Minister Wildberger demonstrably holds the position, possesses an office and maintains a website, yet his ministry’s budgetary details remain unaccounted for.

The lack of a designated budget plan, currently hindering the minister’s operational capacity, underscores what Paus describes as a discrepancy between the government’s announcements and the reality of their implementation. She emphasized the need to clarify which government departments and responsibilities will be consolidated under Minister Wildberger’s remit to effectively carry out his mandate. The absence of a budget plan raises concerns about the government’s ability to translate declared intentions into tangible action.
