Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Votes September 2026

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a state in northeastern Germany, has officially set the date for its next state parliamentary election for September 20, 2026. The decision, formally confirmed during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, was announced by the Ministry of the Interior.

According to Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD), establishing this election date provides early clarity for political parties, election authorities and the wider electorate. “Our aim is to facilitate a structured and transparent preparation process for the state parliament election” he stated.

The chosen date adheres to the legal framework stipulated by the state constitution and the State and Municipal Elections Act. This legislation mandates that state parliament elections must occur within a timeframe of 58 to 61 months following the commencement of the previous electoral term, which began on October 26, 2021.
