German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has expressed concerns regarding Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, urging a greater degree of proportionality.
Speaking to RTL and ntv television stations on Monday, Wadephul affirmed Germany’s continued support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. However, he emphasized that the conflict’s trajectory has reached a point that is, in his view, unsustainable. “Too many people are dying, too many are suffering and too many are facing hunger” he stated.
Wadephul acknowledged Israel’s involvement in a multi-front conflict, suggesting this contributes to the significant number of casualties and instances of starvation within the Gaza Strip. The CDU politician voiced that Israel risks losing sight of proportionality and insisted that a change in approach is necessary.
