Despite facing considerable criticism from within the Green Party, Jette Nietzard, a spokesperson for Green Youth, maintains a strong connection to the parent organization. In an interview with “Der Spiegel”, Nietzard affirmed her belief in the Green Party, emphasizing the necessity of advocating for climate protection and citing the party’s historically progressive stances.
She expressed confidence in the foundational principles outlined in the party’s 2020 program, while acknowledging that its implementation has fallen short. “It was unfortunately not implemented well” she stated.
Nietzard is expected to soon announce whether she will seek re-election as spokesperson for Green Youth in October. She has indicated she does not intend to pursue a career in professional politics, explicitly stating, “I absolutely do not want to go into parliament, I swear, not for the next ten years”. This statement directly refutes recent speculation suggesting a potential departure from the Green Party and a possible run for the Berlin House of Representatives on the Left Party’s list in 2026.
Acknowledging her ability to generate public attention, Nietzard also described herself as someone unwilling to compromise, a characteristic that has drawn criticism following remarks perceived as generalizing about men and police officers.
Nietzard attributes the widespread negative reactions she receives, in part, to her radical feminist perspective. “I don’t want to politely ask men if I can have a piece of cake” she explained. “I want to take more than half of the cake away from them. That naturally makes me unpopular”.
