Following a summit of several EU interior ministers held on the Zugspitze mountain in Bavaria, Agnieszka Brugger, Deputy Parliamentary Group Chair of the German Green Party, has voiced strong criticism of the migration policies pursued by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU).
Brugger, speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, asserted that Dobrindt’s unilateral approach to migration policy within Europe has primarily “caused damage” thus far. She specifically pointed to the rejection of asylum seekers at the German border, which she stated has resulted in divisions with neighboring countries, including Poland.
Brugger urged a significant shift in direction, calling for a “European political offensive” on migration policy. She emphasized the need for standardized accommodation and asylum procedures across EU member states, alongside a fair distribution of migrants throughout Europe – priorities she believes should be at the forefront of the Federal Interior Minister’s agenda.
She argued that Dobrindt’s current focus on a policy of strict measures is ultimately unsustainable.
The “Zugspitze Summit” which included the interior ministers of France, Poland, Austria, Denmark and the Czech Republic, as well as EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner, was convened with the stated goal of intensifying European migration policy, as previously announced by Dobrindt.
